Reed Reads

This week was really good — we had two baptisms and both are youth. The young man is 17 and is going to serve a mission, and the young woman is 19 and she is thinking about a mission; but I think she will go. Below is a picture of them and their parents. Their mom is going to get baptized in two weeks and her future husband works all day, so we haven’t been able to teach him yet, but we are going to find a way and the Lord will provide one.

The other picture is of me and the Oaxaca Temple President. He is awesome — I had a good talk with him after a temple session. I was super blessed to get a few minutes to talk to him in the temple and ask him a few of the 100 questions that I have. haha

I love to study. I have so many questions and I am learning a lot more and faster studying like that. I am planning on studying for a little while when I get home if that is ok with Mom and Dad if I just sit in the house and study for a little while. It’s awesome how the Lord changes our desires and habits. If you guys remember, before my mission I did not like to read at all, and now I love it. It makes me laugh when I think of how on Sundays I used to be so bored and Dad would say ,”Reed, grab a book”, and i wouldn’t. Now I would love to read all Sunday.

Hey Dad, can you do me another favor and send me the interview questions to receive the sacerdocio de melquisedec and the interview to be sealed? The temple questions helped me a lot; our ward has a problem paying tithing so the Bishop brought a list to Church and showed the Ward that there was hardly any one paying. I spoke to them and told them that, in reality, that is a list of people who can enter the temple, and a list of families that have a worthy Priesthood holder in the house. I think it woke them up a little; it was good.

Thanks for everything! Love you all!

Las Escrituras

The scriptures are amazing!  They are too good! I love the knowledge and spirit we can receive from them. The Old Testament is eye-opening; the miracles are unreal. My desire to follow Christ’s example and become more like him is strengthened every time I read the scriptures – especially the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is the only book that Christ has said is true.  It is so vital in these the last days, in the restoration of the ten tribes, and in accessing the power of the atonement.   It has changed my life and brought me closer to my Savior.

The temple is the Lord’s house.  The temple president spoke in a conference we had and it was a powerful talk!  I want to work in the temple when I  get back.  I hope that is an option.
There was a member who took pictures of the temple recently and they are absolutely amazing!!  When I get them I will send them to you. The member attended a special session in the morning and took pictures of the temple, but didn’t look at them immediately. Later, he pulled up the pictures on his phone and noticed that there is a light coming out of the temple that seems just like the light that Lehi saw in his dream.  It is really white and is coming from all around the temple. I’ll send you the pics next week.
Love all of you – keep sharing the gospel!

Nuevo Companero – Elder Lainez

Becca thanks for the letter!  AND CONGRATS on getting into BYU!!! I guess we are rivals now.  🙂

How many people are getting surgery in the family? Everyone is going to die off before I get back.

I just got a new companion from El Salvador.  His name is elder Lainez, and he is really good.  This week has been good; I am learning so much in my studies! I was studying about the gifts of the spirit and I want all of them! But that is going to come with a lot of work and more than one lifetime of experience.  It’s good that we have eternity.

I GOT THE PACKAGE!!!!!!!! It was super good! Everything is perfect! I love the pics that you sent.  It’s weird seeing Keith at home, especially on a hike!  We are going to do some sweet backpacking trips when I get back.  That’s crazy that Sarah is going to have a baby! I’m going to try and send a foto every week.

I love you all! Keep being an example of covenant keepers, everyone!
